Duck Pond

Stop by and say hi to the ducks on North Street just east of Milford Pond Road. Remind the children not to get too close to the ducks -- they can nip fingers.

Waterfall

Enjoy the grounds surrounding City Hall including the footbridge, waterfall ducks and beautiful lawns.

The Green

Take a stroll up Broad Street and dance with the kids in the Gazebo.

Milford Landing Marina

Have fun watching the boats in the harbor and enjoy a picnic in the promenade.

Albert Hotchkiss Bridge

Cross over from the Marina to the Public Library on this footbridge that spans the Wepawaug River.

 

Bus Ride

Catch a city bus to the downtown area. Children love to put the money in and pull the cord for their stop. Call the Milford Transit District at 874-4507 for schedules.

Connecticut Audubon Coast Center at Milford Point

Opened in 1995, this preserve features a 70 foot observation tower for the best elevated views.

 
Beaches  Milford has miles of shoreline and six beaches -- three with public parking. They are:
Gulf Beach 
Located at the end of Gulf Street. This beach has a food stand, fishing pier and an observation deck. The wind is perfect for kite flying.
Silver Sands State Park 
Has its entrance on Meadowside Road. This beach features a beautiful boardwalk and a sandbar that connects with nearby Charles Island at low tide. Charles Island is rumored to have the treasure of Captain Kidd buried on it. Keep your eye on the tide when you travel to the island or you could end up like Robinson Crusoe.
Walnut Beach 
Is located just off Naugatuck Avenue. It's considered the beach with best sand.

Eisenhower Park
Is located on North Street and has a child-friendly playground, tennis and handball courts and hiking trails.
Wilson Park
Is a small bird sanctuary with walking trails located behind the Milford Public Library.
Lou Gerhig Field
Has a playground that is perfect for toddlers. It is located on Meadowside Road.
Hiking Trails
Mondo Park Nature Preserve and Education Center
Is located behind JFK Elementary School. Its hiking trail is approximately three quarter miles long and will take you through five ponds and a wetlands.
Beaver Brook Trails
Has a trail that is 1.3 miles long. The elevated walkway that this trail boasts makes it great for strollers. This trail is located about a half a mile beyond the JFK School on West Avenue.
Other Fun Things to do
  • Swimming and swimming lessons at the Foran High School swimming pool. Call 783-3280 for information.
  • Swim or enjoy other events at the Milford/Orange YMCA. Learn more by calling 878-6501.
  • The whole family can bowl at AMF Milford Lanes, 1717 Boston Post Road, 878-4568.
  • If you'd rather try duckpin bowling visit Devon Duckpin Lanes, 551 Naugatuck Avenue at 882-1867.
  • Slot car enthusiasts can race at Hobbies Unlimited, 2019 Connecticut Avenue, 878-3448.
  • The Howard Johnson Miniature Golf Course is open from April through September on Boston Post Road. Call 878-4611, ext. 619 for more information.
  • Timbertown offers indoor playground fun at 65 Woodmont Road, 876-5004. They are closed on Wednesdays and also provide birthday parties, so call ahead to confirm when freeplay is available.
  • Milford Ice Skating Pavilion is open to the public Monday through Friday from 11:15 - 12:45 and Sundays from 1:00 to 2:30.
  • Grab an ice cream cone at one of the many ice cream stands throughout the city, such as Carvel, The Cone Zone and TCBY.
  • Call the Milford Fine Arts Council at 878-6647 to learn about upcoming events.
